We aim to help home owners realise the full potential of their homes. Sometimes this is through an extension, and sometimes reconfiguring the layout can be just as effective. We will guide you through every stage of the project from initial concept to final construction drawings – where we hand the project over to the builders. We have a good relationship with local builders and our drawings are loved due to their level of detail and clarity.
We are available to answer any queries while the builders carry out the work on site and are always happy to help.
Until 2018, James ran an architects practice in Cheshire with his wife. He worked on all types of projects from house extensions to barn conversions to wine bars.
In 2019 James decided to start a new company that specialises in small house extensions. This allows a personal level of service for each and every project and ensures that the home owner receives an expert service at a competitive price.
James’ experience doesn’t stop at the end of the working day, as he spends much of his own time busy with self build projects. Anything from garden buildings to house extensions and this first hand experience of the building process helps inform his designs and achieve value for money for the clients. James obviously loves problem solving and being creative, but the main reason that he loves housExtend is that he can see the value added to peoples lives by the transformation of outdated homes into something that actually improves our quality of life. We spend the majority of our time indoors and a big proportion of this is at home. Creating a family room with lots of natural light and views onto the garden is a typical solution to homes needing some TLC and can really change the way we live.
James will meet with home owners before the initial survey stage – when you are considering how you can update and improve your home. This is a free consultation and you can discuss what you wish to do and how we might achieve this.
Once appointed, and after measuring up the existing house, James will then provide design drawings for discussion. Don’t worry about the planning process – James handles all of the necessary applications. When it comes to build cost, this is often critical to small house extensions – James will also arrange estimates from local builders at design stage and then quotes at building regulations stage.
Once you have planning permission and building regulations approval, and are happy to proceed with your builder, then James will still be available to answer any queries during the construction work. We offer fixed fees and don’t charge any extras for mileage, printing etc. The only charges not included in my fees are for the council application fees (refer council website for latest fees) and any other consultants necessary – such as a structural engineer that maybe required if new steel beams are needed, or we have a complicated roof design.
The design drawings are of high quality and combined with 3d colour images really allow you to understand the proposals from the initial design drawings. I take on a limited number of projects and offer a quick and efficient service.
